St. Vincent’s Nursing Home
St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey purchased 14 acres of land in Cedar Grove, New Jersey to house their St. Vincent’s Nursing Home Division. The two-story 91,500 sq.ft. building accomodates 151 residents in 31 private rooms and 60 double rooms.
The center area includes the main entrance, lobby, multi-purpose room and adult day-care facilities on the first floor. A therapy room, gift shop, beauty parlor, chapel and resident lounge are located on the second floor.
The first floor north wing houses ancillary services such as dietary, housekeeping, laundry, maintenance/mechanical facilities and administrative offices.
Three seperate 50-bed nursing units are located on the second floor of the north wing and on both floors of the south wing. All nursing units include one and two-bed resident rooms, resident dining/lounge areas and nursing support facilities. These include, nursing station, bathing area, exam room, medication room, clean and soiled work rooms, equipment storage, conference room, office and staff lockers.
The facility was designed to meet and exceed the needs of the residents as well as the staff that provides long-term, skilled nursing. The first floor unit was specifically designed for residents who are afflicted with Alzheimer’s, and includes a special lounge area for therapy, interactive artwork in the corridors and access to an outdoor garden with appropriate security.
By naming the corridors and incorporating signs that depict trees or flowers, the signage facilitates way-finding for all residents and visitors. St. Vincent’s Nursing Home admits 40-50 new residents yearly and maintains and occupancy rate of 99%.
