Pediatric Emergency Room

Pediatric Emergency Room

Description

The changing needs of pediatric emergency care led to the creation of a new facility at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. It was designed to accomodate the needs of a diverse patient population from infants to young adults and their family members.
No longer are caregivers treating only the patient. Doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers and support service staff work as a team to address the family issues that are a part of emergency situations.
A team including the Vice President of Patient Care Services conducted in-depth research to develop the design criteria given to the architects and designers.
The challenge lay in designing a space that would accomodate the increased care requirements in 5,000 sq. ft. of renovated space within the main hospital building. The ten treatment areas incorporate non-critical cubicle area; two separate areas for trauma cases; a quiet room that is equipped to address special security issue; and private rooms for adolescent patients, infectious disease and disruptive cases.
