Barsotti Building
Description
The interior designer/owner brought back to life a neglected turn-of-the-century drug store in the registered historic district. Love of the tin ceiling inspired a design of open beams atop a conference room within a larger room. The grandeur of the first floor was maintained while affording privacy to clients during presentations. Custom windows allow natural light. Thirteen foot high walls in the former storeroom provide gallery space for local artists. HID and adjustable low-voltage accent lighting- emphasizing ceiling and artwork – are concealed at the top of the conference room.
The elegant three story staircase was preserved while adhering to the city’s BOCA code. Fire-rated sheetrock was fitted into door panels and transoms and trimmed with custom moldings. Spring-loaded hinges completed safety requirements.
Other historic features were preserved including wooden storefront, art-deco kitchen, fireplaces, skylight, moldings, antique safe and doors with hardware restored to original copper finish. Two HVAC systems eliminated boxed-in ductwork.
Walls and ceilings finished with Zolatone provide natural textural interest. Maple floors duplicate original materials. Contemporary furnishings with classic lines complement the Victorian architecture.
